Hi,
My name is Scott Kuipers and I have spent My life in the outdoors.
Welcome to the website for Southwest Outdoor School.
This site is new and under revision, if You have questions or want to discuss hosting a training please call Me.
Southwest Outdoor School operates out of SantaFe New Mexico, but We also travel to carry Our message of connecting with the natural world through wilderness trainings and treks.
Here is a list of some of the programs offered
Wilderness Survival weekend - This two day hands on workshop covers most of the fundamental priorities of traditional Wilderness Survival including considerations for improvising and building shelters , obtaining water and making it drinkable, fire building, finding and locating food including identifying edible plants, obtaining animal protein, tracking basics, wilderness navigation, terrain interpretation, signaling and communication. Understanding Your environment and Your survival priorities is the key to surviving any survival situation. Heavy emphasis on preparing you to avoid a survival situation if possible.
Stone age wilderness survival trainings - Shelter from natural found materials, harvesting and purifying water, foraging on local plants, survival trapping and hunting, animal tracking, cordage from natural materials, stone tool fabrication and use, primitive body care, nature awareness, stalking, and blending into the natural environment so You can stay hidden. This is a two day hands on training with part at a base camp and part in the field.
Wilderness survival for the medical professional - Geared towards the first 96 hours after an incident occurs in the field. Perfect for groups or individuals traveling to remote wilderness locations or disaster zones where rescue is delayed or improbable.
